Don’t miss a fun new feature of Cherry Blossom Festival this year, which is an outdoor activity zone designed for young learners and curious minds of all ages. All activities are free, but donation jars will be available if you have a few bucks to help us cover the cost of supplies. The activity zone will include:

Freestyle Origami Table: we provide paper and instructions, you supply the brainpower.

Giant Origami: located at the Origami Table, this will last from 12-2 or until the giant paper runs out. We’ll have volunteers on hand to help you fold some specific figures in enormous, sturdy kraft paper.

Japanese Calligraphy and Name Writing: some wonderful volunteers from the Heart of America Japan America Society will be available to write your name in Japanese characters and demonstrate basic brush calligraphy.

Art Zone: we’ll have sidewalk chalk and some how-to guides to help you draw some of your favorite anime or game characters, as well as few words and phrases for your to practice writing in Japanese. We anticipate a very colorful parking lot around this booth!

Candy Walk: works like a cake walk, but the stations are labeled in Japanese and the prizes are traditional Japanese sweets. Learn some basic counting skills and enjoy some awesome imported candy!

Printmaking Station: this table will provide a very basic introduction to relief printing, with information about the remarkable and visually stunning history of Japanese Wood Block Printing.
